How to close a trade fully or partially
Updated over 2 weeks ago

PrimeXBT allows you to manage your trades with flexibility, enabling you to close any of your open positions either fully or partially.

This feature ensures you can adjust your exposure to market conditions or lock in profits with precision.

To close a position, navigate to the ‘CFD Trading’ on the left side of the top menu, then click on the account you wish to use. This will open a new window where all active trades associated with your selected account are listed.

Closing a trade step-by-step

In accordance with our Terms and Conditions, certain products, services, or promotions may be restricted or unavailable in specific jurisdictions.

Here’s how to close your trade, whether fully or partially:

  1. Select the position to close

    • Locate the trade you wish to close in the ‘Positions’ widget.

    • Right-click on the position and select ‘Close Position’ from the dropdown menu.

  2. Select how much to close

    • Fully close the position: To exit the trade entirely, simply click ‘Close Position’ without modifying the amount.

    • Partially close the position: Enter the desired amount to close in the ‘Amount to Close’ field, then click ‘Close Position’ to proceed. Important: If you have selected One-click trading, this is not available, instead you will fully close the position.

  3. Confirm the action

    • A confirmation screen will appear. Review the details of your request, then click ‘Confirm’ to finalize the closure.

What happens next?

  • Fully closed positions
Once you’ve fully closed a position, it will be removed from the ‘Positions’ widget and recorded in your trade history for future reference.

  • Partially closed positions
If you partially close a position, the remaining portion of the trade will remain active and will be updated in the ‘Positions’ widget to reflect the new amount. You can further manage or close the remaining position at any time.

Why use partial closures?

Partial closures are an excellent tool for risk management and strategic trading:

  • Lock in profits: Secure gains on a portion of your position while keeping the rest open to benefit from potential further price movements.

  • Reduce exposure: Lower your risk by decreasing the size of your position without exiting the market entirely.

By offering full and partial trade closures, PrimeXBT allows you the flexibility to adapt to changing market conditions while maintaining control over your strategies.
